Ragged Island: A crescent-shaped island in the Bahamas

Ragged Island is a crescent-shaped island that is only 110 miles long and has a tight-knit community of 100 residents. The locals are known best for their incredible skills as boat builders and captains, making their deep knowledge of the sea a handy perk for visitors arriving by yacht. Despite its name, Ragged Island is a peaceful and hilly place that will surely allow you to step back in time while enjoying all the modern luxuries a superyacht provides.

The Island is a haven for visitors who are fond of fishing, as its unparalleled flats make an ideal place for bonefishing. On any given day, you will likely catch fish like barracuda, tuna, snapper, and even kingfish. Plus, all the beaches on the Island are highly unexplored, making them a great spot for beachcombing.

The Island's only settlement is Duncan Town, where most locals live. This area is located in a shallow bay convenient for yacht charters cruising through the Ragged Range. Duncan Town can easily be explored on foot as it is only about 24 square km. Here, you can shop for handmade Bahamian souvenirs or even explore historical landmarks like the Lighthouse Tower, completed in 1922. Another must-see is the Island's unique church, a hub for all three faiths practiced there.

Pack a picnic before hopping aboard your yacht and head to Hog Cay Beach first. If you visit during Valentine's Day, you will enjoy being on this beach as people like to celebrate all day long for their annual Valentine's weekend party. You may also want to visit Little Ragged Island Beach for more seclusion. With no residents and few visitors, it's a peaceful spot perfect for those arriving by yacht.

Explore the coastline's caves and coves too. These are believed to have been used by pirates, including the infamous Blackbeard, as hideaways and possibly for stashing treasure. A visit to Blackbeard's Bay and Well is a must for any pirate enthusiast.
