The name Pianemo or Piaynemo means “the connection between harpoon head and shaft” due to the small narrow strip connecting the two main sides of the island. Pianemo is located within the Raja Ampat archipelago, more specifically, the Wayag Islands. It is famous for its Pianemo Hill, where a panoramic view of the scattered limestone hills that surround the area can be seen. To see the whole island in a bird’s eye view, it is recommended to hike towards Pianemo Hill, a 40-meter-high peak accessible via a 10-minute climb up 300 wooden steps. Although the hike is challenging, its mesmerising view is worth all the exercise.
