Upbeat and full of life, the Philippines turns every day into a feast
With over 7000 islands, the Philippines is a tropical wonderland befitting the name “the Pearl of the Orient Seas."
As one of the most significant island nations with no land borders, the Philippines has unparalleled access to a diverse marine environment. It is one of only 17 mega-biodiverse countries, from vibrant coral reefs to majestic whale sharks. While the yachting industry in the Philippines is still in its early stages, it leaves many islands untouched and undiscovered. Making the Philippines an ideal destination for a secluded retreat, far from the crowds and immersed in nature's raw beauty.
Palawan, the country’s crown jewel, is famous for its emerald waters and limestone cliffs. It is home to the Bacuit Archipelago, El Nido, Coron, and some of the most exclusive private islands in the world, like Banwa Island and Pamalican Island, which hosts the Amanpulo Resorts. Both private resort islands are accessible by plane, offering the most secluded and luxurious escape. At Coron, wreck diving and snorkelling are famous in Kayangan Lake. The Balabac Islands is a hidden gem with unspoiled beaches and rare wildlife. Palawan’s capital, Puerto Princesa, also has spectacular natural features, including the UNESCO-listed Puerto Princesa Underground River, the breathtaking Ugong Rock, and the Nagtabon Beach. Nearby Honda Bay, known for its sparkling waters and bright coral reefs, is a popular island-hopping location, with some notable islands like Starfish Island, Luli Island, and Cowrie Island. Southeast of Palawan Island, the UNESCO-listed Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park is home to more than 1200 marine species.
In the Visayas Region, yachting brings you to the famous Chocolate Hills of Bohol, the magical waterfalls of Siquijor, and Cebu's Oslob, where there’s an opportunity to swim with whale sharks all year round. Beyond its natural wonders, Visayas is famous for its colour festivals, or fiestas, where everyone is invited to celebrate with lively parades and traditional dances and indulge in traditional dishes like lechon, a roasted pig that's a centrepiece of Filipino feasts. For a more off-the-beaten-path destination, Ticao Island in Masbate province is a diver’s haven with its untouched marine ecosystem filled with manta rays swimming atop colourful corals.
The southernmost region of the Philippines is less explored. Still, it boasts some of the most pristine coves, like those in Siargao, where surfing is also famous, and Samal Island, known for its luxurious resort and white sand beach.
The biggest group of islands, Luzon, which also hosts the capital region, Metro Manila, offers a diverse and exciting yachting experience. Subic Bay is the prime spot for sailing and yachting, with its Subic Bay Yacht Club as the main gateway, providing easy access to nearby islands and beautiful beaches. Puerto Galera, in southern Luzon, is also a famous yachting hub, thanks to the well-equipped Puerto Galera Marina. Cruise south and visit Apo Reef, the world’s second-largest reef system, to explore the colourful underwater world.
The Philippines has a fantastic selection of yacht charters to match every taste and group size, whether you're looking for cosy 30-50 foot yachts for a romantic getaway or lavish superyachts over 100 feet featuring spacious living areas and excellent amenities like Jacuzzis and spas. As mentioned, marinas such as Subic Bay Yacht Club, Puerto Galera Marina, and Cebu Yacht Club offer first-rate amenities and convenient access to various destinations.
