Jost Van Dyke: A small Caribbean gem

Jost Van Dyke, the smallest and the least populated of the four main islands in the British Virgin Islands, is a tiny off-the-beaten-path paradise located in the northwest of Tortola. When people think of BVI, Jost Van Dyke is often overlooked. Unlike its bigger and busier neighboring islands, Jost Van Dyke doesn't have high-rise hotels nor bustling crowds making it a popular stop for yacht charters looking for barefoot luxury.

Jost Van Dyke is named after a 17th-century Dutch pirate who once navigated these waters. Today, this island is dubbed the "party island" of the BVI, as numerous beach bars and restaurants call this place home. Foxy's Bar, a legendary hotspot, has welcomed visitors for over 50 years with ice-cold drinks and mouth-watering Caribbean dishes. Foxy's famous beach barbecues come alive on Friday and Saturday nights, too, creating unforgettable moments on shore.

Another well-known bar on the island and perhaps the whole Caribbean is the Soggy Dollar Bar, which got its name after sailors dropped anchor and swam ashore to buy drinks for which they'd pay soggy dollars. To this day, yacht charterers like to keep this tradition by jumping off their boats and swimming to Soggy Dollar just to sip their famous PainKillers.

White Bay Beach is also a standout, celebrated as one of the most beautiful in the BVI. This place is packed with yachts bringing people to Jost Van Dyke. This stretch of dazzling white sand is an ideal place to enjoy water sports straight from your yacht. From there, too, you can anchor your boat and go on land to hike to the Bubbly Pool—a natural phenomenon where water from the ocean rushes through the rocks and fills the pool with bubbles that look like a Jacuzzi.

Beyond White Bay Beach, you can only reach a few incredible spots by yacht. Sandy Cay is a must-see, offering a quiet escape with its gorgeous beach and nature trails. Then there's Sandy Spit, a tiny cay that's even smaller than Sandy Cay, but it's the perfect place to channel your inner castaway in the middle of the ocean. Little Jost Van Dyke is another excellent stop where you can kick back with a cold drink and your toes in the sand at the laid-back Beeline Beach Bar.

For those seeking underwater adventures, Jost Van Dyke offers fantastic scuba diving opportunities. Explore sites like Wayward Wall, a haven for turtles and vibrant marine life between 12 and 40 meters deep, perfect for novice divers. Experienced divers will love The Cathedral, where an underwater tunnel leads to a hidden cave—a magical and unique experience. Snorkelers can also enjoy the coral reefs off White Bay Beach, discovering colorful corals and tropical fish in calm, clear waters.

Jost Van Dyke is a must-visit for yacht and superyacht charters looking to embrace the true essence of the Caribbean. Pack your bags and begin your escapade today by exploring the incredible selection of private yachts for charter.
