Ekincik: Drift, explore, and recharge
Tucked between Dalyan and Marmaris on Turkey’s southern coast, Ekincik Bay is the kind of place that never makes the top ten lists—and that’s part of its charm. Surrounded by steep green hills and dotted with simple boats, the bay feels like it’s been left alone in all the right ways. Most people discover Ekincik while cruising along the Turkish Riviera, and many end up staying longer than planned. It’s calm, remote, and just far enough off the radar to feel special.
The long beach that lines Ekincik Bay is soft, quiet, with barely any signs of development. Behind it are green hills with only a few buildings scattered in the trees. From here, you can reach Iztuzu Beach, a stunning four-kilometer stretch of golden sand. This beach is a protected nesting ground for endangered loggerhead turtles. If you visit between May and September, there’s a chance you might see them swimming or coming ashore to lay eggs.
But just offshore, there’s history hiding in the hills. A short ride away, past tall reeds and winding rivers, are the ancient ruins of Kaunos. According to legend, it was founded by King Kaunos, the grandson of Apollo, over 2,000 years ago. The ruins include a large amphitheater, stone baths, an acropolis, and rock tombs carved directly into the cliffs. These tombs are visible from the river and remain one of the most iconic sights in the region.
Not far from Kaunos are the Sultaniye Thermal Springs, known for their warm, mineral-rich mud baths. Locals and travelers have soaked in these pools for centuries. Some come for healing, others for fun. After covering yourself in mud and drying off in the sun, you can rinse in the sulfur pools surrounded by reeds and water birds.
For those who prefer a bit of movement, the Dalaman River is close enough for a whitewater rafting trip. If you’d rather stay on the yacht, the bay offers excellent conditions for paddleboarding, kayaking, and snorkeling. Water toys are a great way to explore the coast at your own pace.
You won’t find glossy restaurants or beach clubs here, but that’s exactly why it works. Ekincik lets you enjoy the sea on its own terms, away from the noise. If you're planning to explore southern Turkey by yacht, this is a quiet favorite worth anchoring for.
